Every Winter We Fear for Our Dogs
The CANYA SOS Foundation is located on the grounds of the Municipal Dog Shelter, in the Palmones River valley, in a high-risk flood zone. Rain poses an immediate threat to all the dogs in our shelter. Year after year, volunteers risk their own lives when the rains intensify, as they must urgently evacuate the dogs from the shelter. This is a regrettable situation that cannot and should not continue. Many dogs have drowned as a result of flooding. Winter brings immense stress and fear for everyone involved.
We Have a Plan
We are at a crucial moment in our mission to create a dog sanctuary, having secured 3 hectares in Los Barrios thanks to €250,000 raised through generous donations. However, our project needs more support. To protect our dogs from the threat of flooding next winter, we are facing the challenge of raising an additional €900,000 by 2025.
We Have Already Come a Long Way
January 2023: We completed the land purchase
September 2024: We obtained all construction permits
November 2024: We began construction of vital infrastructure and the first 20 corrals
